Tata Trusts is planning to establish a network of 40 to 50 not-for-profit general hospitals across India to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare. Chairman Noel Tata outlined the initiative in the organisation’s Annual Report for 2025–26, highlighting a shift towards building long-term institutions that deliver measurable social impact.
The proposed hospitals are expected to follow a cross-subsidy model, under which patients who can afford to pay for treatment will help support care for people with limited financial resources. The model aims to make quality medical services more accessible without compromising the standards of doctors, medicines, or healthcare infrastructure.
The hospital expansion forms part of Tata Trusts’ broader healthcare strategy for 2026–2031. The organisation plans to reach approximately 25 lakh people across around 75 blocks and strengthen more than 100 public health facilities in high-priority districts. Other goals include expanding primary healthcare services for 10 lakh elderly people and training more than 20,000 frontline healthcare workers.
Tata Trusts has also continued its work in cancer care and medical assistance. During the financial year 2025–26, its cancer care programmes recorded 106,626 outpatient consultations, 24,874 chemotherapy cycles and 2,879 surgeries, according to reported figures.
The proposed hospital network represents a move towards institution-building alongside the Trusts’ existing philanthropic programmes. However, the annual report does not specify the planned hospitals’ locations, investment requirements, bed capacity, or construction timelines.
