Gujarat is planning two large hospitals, each with a capacity of 1,500 beds, in Ahmedabad and Surat as part of its efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure and improve access to advanced medical services. Gujarat Health Minister Prafull Pansuriya outlined the plans while discussing ongoing initiatives by the state health department.

The proposed hospitals are expected to feature modern medical facilities and high-quality infrastructure. According to the minister, the facilities are intended to serve patients from Gujarat and other parts of India, while also supporting the state’s ambitions to attract international patients for medical treatment.

The announcement comes alongside other measures to improve public healthcare facilities. Under the Namo Swachhata Abhiyan, the health department has focused on cleanliness and housekeeping across civil hospitals, Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and Community Health Centres (CHCs).

The department has also compiled a list of deficiencies identified across these facilities, with the tendering process underway to address the gaps and improve hospital infrastructure. The minister additionally highlighted concerns about adulterated medicines and irregularities in pharmaceutical manufacturing, stressing the importance of medicine quality and accountability.

The two proposed hospitals are expected to increase Gujarat’s healthcare capacity and strengthen the availability of advanced medical services. Further project details, including timelines, exact locations, and implementation plans, were not specified in the report.
