Health Ministry Reviews Special Campaign 6, Schedules Kayakalp Cleanliness Activities for October 27
he Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has reviewed the progress of Special Campaign 6 and preparedness for a dedicated one-day initiative under Kayakalp, scheduled for October 27, 2026. The campaign aims to strengthen cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene across government healthcare facilities while reducing pending work and institutionalising sustainable cleanliness practices.
The review meeting was chaired virtually by Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava from Kartavya Bhawan-1, New Delhi. Representatives from 336 Central health institutions participated, including AIIMS Guwahati, AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, NIMHANS Bengaluru, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Safdarjung Hospital and RIMS Imphal.
During the meeting, the Health Secretary emphasised that cleanliness initiatives must result in visible and sustainable improvements in sanitation, hygiene, space management and the overall upkeep of healthcare facilities. She encouraged institutions to ensure that improvements are measurable and verifiable, with a focus on enhancing the experience of patients, visitors, staff and pensioners.
The Ministry reported that all identified cleanliness sites had been cleaned, nearly 100% of public grievance appeals had been resolved, and approximately ₹50 lakh in revenue had been generated through auction and clearance drives. Discussions also covered the implementation of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle principles, pest control, biomedical waste management, e-waste disposal and the clearance of obsolete records and materials.
Participating institutions shared initiatives such as digitising medical records, refurbishing condemned furniture, repurposing discarded materials, developing green spaces and introducing digital grievance redressal systems with QR-code-enabled feedback. The Ministry urged institutions to document their achievements and assess campaign outcomes through direct feedback from visitors and beneficiaries.
Special Campaign 6 is being conducted from October 2 to 31, 2026. The dedicated Kayakalp activities on October 27 will focus on sanitation and hygiene, reinforcing the Ministry’s efforts to create cleaner, more accessible, and welcoming government healthcare environments.
