The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has revised the qualifying cut-off scores for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Master of Dental Surgery (NEET-MDS) 2026 after the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India, approved a reduction in the minimum qualifying percentiles. The revision applies to the 2026–27 academic session and follows a Ministry letter dated October 12, 2026. NBEMS issued the notice on October 14, 2026, reducing the qualifying percentile by 20.576 percentile points for each category, in accordance with the applicable Dental Council of India (DCI) regulations.
The NEET-MDS 2026 result was originally declared on June 2, 2026. Following the revision, the minimum qualifying percentiles and corresponding cut-off scores out of 960 marks have been reduced for General, Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, as applicable.
The revised qualifying criteria are as follows:
- General Category (UR/EWS): The qualifying percentile has been reduced from the original 50th percentile to 29.424 percentile, with the cut-off score decreasing from 308 to 234 marks.
- General-PwBD: The qualifying percentile has been reduced from the original 45th percentile to 24.424 percentile, with the cut-off score decreasing from 289 to 218 marks.
- SC/ST/OBC, including PwBD candidates belonging to these categories: The qualifying percentile has been reduced from the original 40th percentile to 19.424 percentile, with the cut-off score decreasing from 271 to 200 marks.
NBEMS has clarified that the revision affects the minimum qualifying criteria and does not change the NEET-MDS 2026 ranks published in the result notification dated June 2, 2026. The original information bulletin should therefore be read in accordance with the revised qualifying criteria.
The board has also stated that candidates' candidature remains provisional, subject to fulfilment of the eligibility conditions specified in the NEET-MDS 2026 Information Bulletin and verification of Face ID or biometric details wherever required.
Candidates are advised to regularly check the official Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website for updates regarding counselling schedules, eligibility and subsequent admission procedures for postgraduate dental courses for the 2026–27 academic session.
